Hoover Steam Vac
A Review Of The Steam Vac Carpet Cleaner
My Review On The Hoover Steam Vac
Here is what I think about the Hoover Steam Vac carpet cleaner. We ordered the Hoover Steam Vac in November 2009 and it's now December 2011. For the duration of that time, we have cleaned our 1300 square foot home which is about 85-90% old beige carpet that 2 soon to be 3 kids get mucky very easily about 4-6 times. The carpets only feel moist soon after and are dry and fresh within several hours with the appropriate temperature and air movement. We regularly use vinegar as an alternative to soaps and the carpets are left with no odour after it's free of moisture and feeling delicate and clean. It's splendid how awesome this cleaning machine can make these old yucky carpets look.
We also warm up the water on the stove as an option to using only tap water and that worked significantly better as well to get the carpets even more cleaned. The hand tools are very convenient to clean small areas and furniture as well as hard to reach places.
It has to be assembled just right or it will not work correctly. It does leave a puddle when it's full of water and left to stand. Read some of the other detailed reviews for many bits of advice to resolve complications and how to keep it clean and dry and maintained.
We were very thoughtful with how it was used and kept it clean and dry when not in use, but now the motor has burned up. Many of the important parts that should be metal are plastic and is a big part of the issue. The spin brushes would be a great deal better if they were more rigid to actually scrub the carpets better and get more of the deep dirt out. The gears are made from low cost materials and plastic, so those will have a habit to strip as well. The tanks are smaller and different sizes, so you have to carry on stopping to empty and fill them.
My hubby is cleaning the rest of the carpets with a rented Rug Doctor ever since our Hoover died after only a few rooms and the results from that aren't that spectacular. Yes, the carpets are getting cleaned decently well, but it's a much gawkier machine, the cord is short, and the carpets are very wet compared to the Hoover. Regardless of all this, we will probably be purchasing another of these machines based on the following:
Although it isn't a great quality home cleaning machine, for the price tag and the way it cleans it is worth owning a new one every few years. The more highly-priced similar machines are also made of the same quality parts and don't always clean as well based on reviews. If you want a more satisfying quality machine, you have to invest 4 times the price, but why bother when you get the same cleanliness for a tiny fraction of the price? This is not a lifetime quality machine, but the cleaning job that it does is well worth purchasing and re-buying the same machine.
One of the initial things that you can do to preserve the carpets in your houses is vacuum them each day. This method is good to take care of loose dirt and grime which changes the general look and bettering the overall life of your carpets so that you won’t have to buy new ones every year. Fortunately to be blunt, vacuuming your carpet is too little if you want your carpet to look great. Deep extraction cleaning is needed to reduce inlayed and stuck dirt from your home carpets. I highly recommend the Hoover Steam Vac based on quality of results, but know that you are not buying a high quality, long lasting carpet cleaner.
